Department of Chemistry

 

The Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest departments of Government college Chittur and B.Sc. Course in Chemistry was started in 1957. A large number of students who have passed out from the Department during the last 60 years with flying colours and have served and continue to serve the society in various fields are the real asset of the department.

More than 25 eminent faculty members have served the department since its inception. The department undertakes seminars, conferences, workshops, student internships and exchange programmes for the benefit of the students. Special attention is given to weaker students by providing remedial coaching and also the department is actively engaging in consultancy services such as water quality parameter analysis. The department also provide hands on training for the final year BSc chemistry students on sanitizer making, soap and toilet cleaner making.

The department has sufficient number of classrooms, a library  with more than 1500 books, two well equipped and spacious laboratory with Fume Cupboard, Emergency shower and Eyewash area along with well separated store room for keeping chemicals. The lab and library are well maintained with the help of two attenders of the department. The department has three spacious and ICT integrated Class rooms and also an instrumentation room with modern instruments.
