The Department of English has been a part of Govt. College, Chittur since its establishment. However it became a full fledged Department only in 2020, when the degree course B.A English Language and Literature started with British History and World History as complementary subjects. Though newly established, the Department endeavours to be at par with any other department with a longer academic history, by trying to inculcate in the students the spirit of research and a quest for a wider and richer world of knowledge attainment. For this purpose the Department hosts a lecture series and has a very active Literary and Book Club, in which the students take an active interest.
