The Department of Mathematics started functioning since the inception of the college onAugust 11, 1947.In 1978, the post graduate course was started. In 2007, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India supported the department under their FIST program. In 2013, the department was again funded by DST under their FIST program for the colleges as a whole. Also KSCSTE is supporting the department under their SARD program from 2014 onwards. National Board for Higher Mathematics of Department of Atomic Energy supports the department under their Library Support.
The department was recognized as a Research Department under University of Calicut in 2015. Currently the department has 7 research supervisors and 16 research scholars.Three research scholars of the department completed their PhD till date.In 2019, M. Phil. programme started in the department and two batches completed their study.
