About the Department

 

The Department of Mathematics started functioning since the inception of the college onAugust 11, 1947.In 1978, the post graduate course was started. In 2007, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India supported the department under their FIST program. In 2013, the department was again funded by DST under their FIST program for the colleges as a whole. Also KSCSTE is supporting the department under their SARD program from 2014 onwards. National Board for Higher Mathematics of Department of Atomic Energy supports the department under their Library Support.

The department was recognized as a Research Department under University of Calicut in 2015. Currently the department has 7 research supervisors and 16 research scholars.Three research scholars of the department completed their PhD till date.In 2019, M. Phil. programme started in the department and two batches completed their study.

The major highlights of the department are

 

• First among the DST- FIST supported Mathematics department in the colleges of Kerala.
• Many of the students are in teaching profession in the field of higher education.
• Many students have also got jobs in various banks and other Govt. services.
• The Mathematics Alumni Association president, Dr. Ambat Vijayakumar is the former head of the Department of Mathematics, CUSAT. Our alumni Dr. Ali Akbar K and Dr. Manikandan R are working as Assistant Professors in the Central University of Kerala.

• Department has altogether 44 publications in various national and international journals till date.
• Conducted 3 Higher Secondary School Teacher Transformation Programme in collaboration with Department of Higher Secondary Education under the auspicious of Department of Collegiate education Kerala.
• More than 25 students have qualified the UGC-CSIR NET examination, GATE examination.
• 2 students qualified for NBHM fellowship. Sruthi Murali completed her Ph.D from IMSc Chennai and Sneha B is recently selected for Ph.D at ISI Bangalore.
• Department conduct ARP Endowment talk every year in memory of Sri. A R Parameswaran, a faculty of Mathematics who passed away in 1998.
• Also conduct Madhaveeyam Lecture series using experts from various fields of Mathematics
